Boss looking to rest Insua

By Al Campbell
Tuesday, 8th December 2009
Rafael Benitez wants to give Emiliano Insua a well deserved rest.

Insua has only missed the Carling Cup game with Leeds and the game at Sunderland all season. The inexperienced defender has been a regular because of injuries to Fabio Aurelio and Andrea Dossena but Benitez is hoping, with the two of them now returning to full fitness, that he can give Insua a slight break.

"It’s not just been a problem with Emiliano. There have been other players who have had to play too many games because of our injuries," said the boss.

"But once we have some more players coming back, hopefully we will be able to manage in a better way and Emiliano is definitely someone who will benefit [from a break].

"It will be better for him soon when he can share some games in the future and he has someone to help with the responsibility and compete for his position.

"There have been a couple of games where he has made one or two mistakes but still, for me, he is doing a good job.

"Everything he is doing is even better when you think he is such a young player; don’t forget he has been capped already in the senior Argentina side.

"That is really important for him and I think maybe he will go on to be in their squad for the World Cup. It has been hard because players have changed in front of him and alongside him."
